You Can Rent Melissa McCarthy’s Toluca Lake Bungalow for $10,000 a Month

Like the comedian, the 2,200-square-foot home is both elegant and quirky

Melissa McCarthy once joked that her Toluca Lake home has “the tiniest bedroom on earth,” but judging from photos of the recently relisted rental property, what it may lack in size, it more than makes up in character and charm. The 2,167-square-foot 1940s-style bungalow features three bedrooms and three bathrooms spread out across a single story, with plenty of personalized touches to show off McCarthy’s quirky yet elegant aesthetic.

The home sits behind both a vertically slatted fence and secured entry gates, and has a two-car garage that McCarthy and her husband, actor and director Ben Falcone, converted into a flexible living space with its own air conditioning and attached bathroom. The home’s modest entryway opens onto a sizable formal living room, anchored by a grand carved-mantel fireplace flanked on either side by a set of French windows. A unique light fixture holds court above the space, while yellow curtains add a pop of color to the room. That same color scheme extends to the formal dining area, where a bold, white-and-burnt-yellow flower wallpaper lines the room. The adjoining black-and-white kitchen features stainless-steel appliances, a white subway-tile backsplash, and black marble countertops. The room’s centerpiece is an industrial trolley cart turned kitchen island with a thick slab of white marble on top.

Toward the back of the home is a family room with cool light mint-green walls that stand in stark contrast to the slick dark hardwood floors. An entire wall of French doors lets in ample natural light, and leads directly out onto the backyard. A small office with a wall of built-in storage cubbies is located just off the family room. The home’s three bedrooms include two guest bedrooms, each with their own en suite, vintage-style bathrooms, as well as a master suite with oversized tulip print wallpaper, a fitted walk-in closet and another vintage-style en suite bathroom complete with a marble-topped vanity, claw-footed soaking tub, and glass-enclosed shower. In a June 2014 interview with Variety, McCarthy revealed that the lack of space in the master suite forced her to get ready for the 2012 Oscars elsewhere when she lived in the home. “I had my stylist come to my garage,” said McCarthy, who was nominated for best supporting actress for her role in Bridesmaids that year. “My friends are like, ‘Get it together!’"

The home's backyard is lush with an assortment of mature trees and bamboo, with a curtained pergola offering up stylish shade for lounging and dining. A modestly sized swimming pool sits just beyond and is surrounded by a flower bed peppered with several pink plastic flamingos. According to Variety, McCarthy and Falcone have listed the home on the rental market, fully furnished, for $10,000 a month. The couple and their two young daughters currently live in a much larger, custom-built East Coast–style home in another part of Toluca Lake, where they have an acre of land and room enough for a swimming pool, a tennis court, and—presumably—a glam team.
